Sinopec chose Havyard 843 CD AHTS

Chinese oil company Sinopec Corp. chose a Havyard-design
Yet another breakthrough for Havyard Group in the very important Chinese market. This is the first time we shall deliver a Havyard designTM to a Chinese owner for building at a Chinese shipyard. Havyard Group has signed an agreement with Sinopec Corp. (China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation) for delivery of design and detail engineering for building of a Havyard 843 CD Anchor Handling Tug Supply Vessel (AHTS). Sinopec Corp. is the second largest oil company in China and is listed on Chinese and international stock exchanges. The company’s main activities are oil and gas exploration and production, oil refining, production of other oil and chemical products, import and export of oil and gas, etc. Sinopec Corp. is the largest producer of refined oil products in China.
The ship is going to be built at a Chinese shipyard and will be delivered Q2 2012. Operator of the vessel will be Shanghai Offshore Oil Bureau, which is a fully owned subsidiary of Sinopec Corp. Shanghai Offshore Oil Bureau operates today 8 offshore vessels and has one Platform Supply Vessel (PSV) under construction.
Havyard Group shall deliver basic design, detail engineering and support to owner and shipyard during construction of the vessel. To successfully build such an advanced vessel it is important to have a close cooperation between designer, owner and shipyard. Havyard Group’s knowledge and experience within ship design, ship building and support to vessels in operation enables us to offer unique support to owner and shipyard for securing a successful execution of the project. Both owner and shipyard will have access to Havyard Group’s shipyards in Norway for useful exchange of experience and knowledge based on similar vessels built at these shipyards. The fact that Havyard Group is shipbuilder as well as ship designer was an important argument for Sinopec in choosing Havyard designTM for their new AHTS.
Havyard 843 CD is developed by Havyard Design and is the next generation AHTS. The vessel is developed in accordance with tomorrow’s needs and for satisfying the new requirements for this type of vessels. High emphasis is put on good stability, safe operation and efficient and building friendly solutions for competitive building and operating cost. The vessel will be equipped with a new concept for the AHT winch arrangement which will ensure safer and more efficient operation than existing vessels. The concept is to replace the traditional “waterfall” winch drum configuration with a “side by side” configuration. This gives lower centre of gravity and better stability in anchor handling operations. There is also high focus on environmental issues and the vessel is designed to satisfy the requirements of Clean Class.
Main data for Havyard 843 CD AHTS:

This is another major breakthrough for Havyard Group in China. There is already four Havyard designTM under construction for foreign owners in China. We have now succeeded to sell our newest state-of-the-art AHTS, the Havyard 843 CD to a Chinese owner / oil company for operation in the Chinese oil sector. This is proof that our strategy to be a fully integrated supplier of shipbuilding technology is correct. In addition it shows the strong position Norwegian offshore oil technology holds and the good reputation of the maritime cluster on the West Coast of Norway, which Havyard Group is a part of. We see this contract as a door opener to a new, exiting market in China. The oil companies in China have high focus on increasing the exploration and production from the Chinese offshore sector and the activity moves to deeper water with tougher, more challenging environment. In Norway we have technology and experience to develop good products and services adding value to Chinese oil companies and ship owners. This makes us attractive and competitive. We believe the Chinese market will contribute to Havyard Group’s continuous growth and development in these challenging times for the maritime industry Ole Zahl, Senior Vice President for the Global Sales Network division within Havyard Group replies.
